Okay, obviously Admin’s have nothing to do. At all. Ever.

What we REALLY want from users is the most ambiguous shit you could ever come up with JUST so we can spend the next 30 minutes either trying to figure out if there’s a problem with a server in the first place, or grilling you for the actual problem.

Say you can’t ssh to *one* of the several ip addresses that are on a single server. What you should do (and we love this I tell you) is IM your sysadmin, because he hates the usefullness of the trouble ticket system, and say “such and such server is down.”

Immediately start getting pissy because we start asking questions because you were vague. I cannot stress this part enough. We will not work faster or drop everything else (which is nothing, remember?) that we were doing unless you start to get personally offended that we are asking you a question.

When you answer the question, try your hardest to sound like you know what you’re talking about by using any buzzwords that might impress your sysadmin. When your sysadmin tells you that the thing you just asked *was* working, assume that your sysadmin is the one that’s clueless and threaten to escalate the “issue.”

Then, argue about it for a while longer until you actually feel like leaking out what is really wrong. Finally, get ambivilent about the fact that there wasn’t an issue in the first place, just that something changed because your sysadmin sacrificed your convenience in the name of something trivial like security.

Your sysadmin will honor and respect you and will never scan your computer for “unauthorized and prohibited” material on your hard drive.

Okay, so we’ve got this admin out in California with the sales office.  Sometimes this guy just pisses me the hell off.  Like yesterday:

He sends us updates of “just been fired” or “gonna be fired when they walk in” so we can remove access in different parts of the system.  He also claims that he’s SOOOOO busy dealing with less than 100 desktops and likst 4 or 5 servers at the most (weak ass) so he’s going to hire an assistant.  Lame.

Anyways, the last list he sent us was done in a spreadsheet, and color coded, then converted to HTML.  I walk to my boss’ office and tell him to look at the damn mail and then we proceed to rip the dumbass for complaining about not having enough time to do anything but having enough time to color code a list that has no need for it.

And today, we’ve gotten updates of “Oops, reactivate this guy cuz he’s not really fired.”

3 of them.

I’ve wanted to call up the dumbass and scream, “Instead of playing around with that weak ass spreadsheet, MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE DOUBLE CHECKED YOUR LIST!”

The dude just drives me nuts.  Freaking Californians.

So, a -48VDC 100A to 120/240 5kVA inverter is gonna cost almost $6,600. It’s absolutely sick. That doesn’t even count how much it’s going to cost to get Embarq to drop us a -48DC/100A line, and the contract to an electrician to install it. And the 3 freaking months it’s going to take to get our entire contract rewritten to get one or two of them. All because Embarq wont let us get anymore AC lines from them.
That sucks. That sucks ass. What a bunch of fucking jerks. We’re growing, we need to install more computers into our CoLo. Sorry, can’t do it. Maxed out on power usage. Need more lines.
Bah.
